Merseyside Scouts issue call for volunteers

Parliament has been dissolved until after the general election and I am no longer an MP.

Merseyside Scouts are on the lookout for volunteers to help with a wide range of tasks including group leading, activity planning, administrative duties, record keeping and gardening.

Scouts are renowned for enjoying camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing and they also meet every week for activities that involve being part of a team, playing games and taking on new challenges.  

Anybody is welcome to join Scouts, regardless of gender, race, physical ability or background.  

There are different sections within the organisation to cater for different age groups.  

Squirrels is a completely new provision, launched in September 2021, for 4 to 6 year-olds. Beavers is for 6 to 8 year-olds, while Cubs welcomes children between 8 and 10½. Scouts is for 10½ to 14 year-olds, and Explorers for 14 to 18 year-olds. Network is for 18 to 25 year-olds.

Wirral West MP, Margaret Greenwood, recently met up with representatives from 2nd West Kirby Sea Scouts at this month's Ashton Park Fair and she is supporting their call for volunteers. 

Margaret Greenwood MP said: 

“It was a real pleasure to meet with representatives from 2nd West Kirby Sea Scouts in Ashton Park and to hear about the fantastic opportunities that they provide for young people locally. 

“Sea scouts in West Kirby are able to learn to sail and kayak on the marine lake. It’s a fantastic way to get involved in water sports, learn new skills and make new friends.  

“Scouting isn’t just for younger people. Adults can get involved too, and there are plenty of ways to volunteer. 

“Scouts in Merseyside are on the lookout for adults to join them and help out in a wide range of ways.  

"I would urge anyone who thinks they may be interested in becoming a volunteer with Scouts to get in touch with them.”

“Volunteering with Scouts can bring a range of benefits: it can boost your happiness and self-confidence, connect you with your local community and even help build skills for your CV. 

“Merseyside Scouts are looking for leaders, helpers, tidy-uppers, activity planners and juice-makers to help keep our groups going.  

“We also need behind the scenes help in roles like administrators, trustees, record keepers and gardeners so there’s something for everyone to get involved with.”
