N-compass is a charity committed to improving the lives of adults and young people across the North West. In February 2017, the charity opened the Wirral Advocacy Hub in the St James Centre in Birkenhead.

Margaret Greenwood, MP for Wirral West, recently visited the Hub with n-compass Chief Executive, Teresa Jennings, to speak to staff about the vital service they provide for vulnerable people across the borough.

Advocates work to amplify the voices of vulnerable people who may struggle to communicate their wishes and assert their rights, particularly in a Health and Social Care setting.

The Hub offers a variety of advocacy support for individuals and referral agencies and is free of charge, independent and confidential. In the last year alone, the team of Multi Specialist Advocates, led by Karen Blair, supported over 2,400 people who contacted the service.

Since the hub opened, nearly 40% of referrals have been for the most marginalised group of people, those who have no family and few friends and who lack the capacity to make important life decisions at the time they need to be made.

Margaret Greenwood MP said:

“The Wirral Advocacy Hub provides an invaluable service to people here in Wirral.

I am really impressed with the work that Karen and her team are doing to support and empower individuals to make decisions and defend their rights.

I would urge anyone who thinks they may benefit from advocacy to contact the Hub for specialist information and advice.”

Karen Blair, Senior Multi Specialist Advocate at the Wirral Advocacy Hub, said:

“It was a pleasure to meet Margaret Greenwood, she really listened to our advocates explain the work they do to liberate Wirral residents to have their rights upheld and their voices heard. We really appreciated the time she spent with us and to have the opportunity to be able to talk about the issues affecting the people we support”
