Margaret Greenwood MP has praised a local event which provides support, and a soup lunch, for carers living in West Wirral.

Margaret Greenwood recently visited Carers Soup 'n' Support which is held on the first Thursday of every month between 12 noon and 2pm at West Kirby Methodist Church on Westbourne Road.

The events are run by volunteers and supported by the WIRED carers team, Wirral Carers Helpline and other organisations working with carers. They are open to anyone who lives in West Wirral and who cares for someone who has an illness or disability.

Each month a different organisation attends to provide information that may be of use to carers. This month saw I Care Community Meals share information about their services, while others who have been in recent months include Ask Us Wirral and Merseytravel.

Margaret Greenwood MP said:

"This is a really good event providing advice and support for carers in West Wirral.

"It is a great way for people to meet and socialise with others who are in similar situations.

"The session I went to was really well attended and the soup was delicious.

"Anyone who thinks they might benefit from this should go along or get in touch for more information."

Sue Gladden, a former manager of Wirral Carers Centre, who organises the sessions said:

"Caring can be rewarding, but it can be exhausting. Meeting other carers who have similar experiences can be mutually beneficial.

"If you are unsure about coming along on your own, please contact us beforehand and we will ensure you are welcomed at the door."
