An MP is reminding her constituents to check if they are eligible for the Government’s Warm Home Discount Scheme.

Consumers may be able to get £140 off their electricity bill this winter if they get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit, or if they are on a low income and meet their energy supplier’s criteria for the scheme.

The money isn’t paid directly to the customer – a one-off discount is applied to their electricity bill between September and March.

You can still qualify for the discount if you use a pre-pay or pay-as-you-go electricity meter, or if you live in a park for mobile homes.

You may be able to get the discount on your gas bill instead if your supplier provides you with both gas and electricity.

Margaret Greenwood, MP for Wirral West, and Shadow Minister for Employment and Inequality, said:

“I would urge any constituents of mine who think they may be eligible for this scheme to check with their energy supplier that they are still accepting applications.

“People should apply as soon as possible as suppliers only provide the Warm Home Discount to a certain number of customers.

“The discount won’t affect people’s Cold Weather Payment or Winter Fuel Payment.”

You can check whether you are eligible, and also find out which suppliers are still accepting applications for the scheme by visiting

You can also contact your supplier directly for more information about the scheme and to see if you can still apply.
