Margaret Greenwood MP joined public sector workers in central Liverpool yesterday to campaign against the government's public sector pay cap of 1%.

Margaret Greenwood addressed a rally where members of PCS union gathered to show their opposition to the pay cap at HMRC, the Ministry of Justice and the Home Office.

Speaking after the rally, Margaret Greenwood said:

"Many public servants here on Merseyside are really suffering as a result of seven years of Tory austerity. The government is failing working people. Public sector pay is not keeping up with inflation and so working families are struggling. We hear of civil servants taking out loans to cover basic bills, taking in lodgers to put food on the table and even some going to food banks. It is time the government took a serious look at the impact that the cap is having on the public servants on whom we all rely. A Labour government would scrap the cap. It's time the government gave public sector workers the pay rise they deserve."
